Personal work: Photoshop blending

After learning a simple blending technique  using the smudge tool in photoshop Cs5.5, I was able to create a realistic looking figure (see image below) they is still many techniques i need to learn and master but I’m really happy with how this image has turned out and feel my photoshop skills have improved alot since first using the software in September 2011.

Craft + Media Tech: Level design 3

In this session of craft + media tech we were asked to produce a full concept art for our game (Finley Wilkins). The idea for the concept was to sum up the game in one picture or a least get people excited/sceptical about our game. we were asked to not use any text just imagery.

Since our nominated artist did not turn up (dam you Fraser) I took the reins. I started out by sketching a few ruff ideas in my sketchbook (can be seen below) the first of which is from a part in our level, the image shows a hand pointing to some sort of combination (this been a puzzle in our level) I felt the image would tell people that the games a puzzler, I liked the simple design  but the image did not set the feel and story. The second image shows a man (Finley) standing in an alleyway with the busy street behind him, it would be about dusk with the street light shinning on his back casting a shadow but not his. I liked the idea of the shadow been Sherlock Holmes but I felt the alleyway scene gets used to much, which takes us to my last sketch. For this sketch I used the simple design of the first sketch along with the shadow idea from the second, the image I come up with shows a close up of Finley smoking a pipe and the shadow he gives off shows Sherlock holding his rather iconic magnifying glass. this was the idea I would run with.

Concept ideas

After I was happy with my idea I decided to get started making it into a fully rendered image using Photoshop and the skills I have learnt in the previous craft + media tech sessions (Final concept below).
